Rotary shaft seals and valve stem seals are vital fluid-containment components engineered to maintain zero-leakage interfaces around rotating or reciprocating engine and drivetrain shafts. KIEK Oil Seals utilize genuine DuPont Viton® (FKM) fluoroelastomer formulations combined with heavy-duty stainless steel garter springs, providing maximum resistance against synthetic oils, transmission fluids, fuel vapors, and aggressive chemical additives.

Designed to perform reliably under high-rpm surface speeds and severe heat spikes (up to +200°C), these seals resist hardening, cracking, and elastic memory loss. Precision-molded sealing lips maintain continuous radial spring force against shaft journals, preventing oil loss while sealing out road grit, water, and ambient dust. Manufactured under the quality control standards of DAkkS GERMANY, KIEK seals deliver extended service life across crankshaft, camshaft, transmission, and wheel hub applications.

Main Functions of Shaft Oil Seals & Valve Stem Seals:

• Internal Fluid Containment: Prevents pressurized engine oil, transmission gear oil, and grease from leaking past rotating shaft housings.
• Environmental Contaminant Exclusion: Blocks dust, dirt, mud, and water ingress from entering internal engine and gearbox compartments.
• Valve Guide Oil Metering: Valve stem seals precisely meter lubricating oil to valve stems while preventing excess oil from entering combustion chambers, eliminating oil burning and spark plug fouling.
• Boundary Separation: Isolates pressurized fluid chambers from atmospheric pressure without creating excessive frictional parasitic drag on rotating shafts.

Supplementary Documentation: Guide & Maintenance

1. Installation Guidelines:

• Inspect Shaft & Housing Bore: Thoroughly clean shaft journals and housing bores before installation. Ensure shaft surfaces are free of scoring, rust, burrs, or groove wear caused by old seals.
• Pre-Lubricate Sealing Lip: Lightly coat the elastomeric seal lip and shaft journal with clean engine or transmission oil prior to fitting. Never press seals onto dry metal surfaces.
• Square Press-Fit: Press the seal squarely into its bore using a dedicated seal driver tool. Apply force strictly to the outer metal/rubber casing—never press directly against the inner flexible sealing lip or garter spring.
• Avoid Spring Displacement: Ensure the internal stainless steel garter spring stays seated in its retention groove during installation to maintain uniform radial lip compression.

2. Failure Symptoms & Replacement Schedule:

• Symptoms of Worn Oil Seals: Visible oil drips beneath crankshaft pulleys or flywheel housings, blue exhaust smoke (degraded valve stem seals), clutch slippage due to rear main seal oil contamination, or oil-fouled brake assemblies near wheel hubs.
• Replacement Schedule: Inspect and replace seals whenever major service procedures are performed (e.g., replace front crankshaft and camshaft seals during timing belt replacements; replace rear main seals during clutch overhauls).

3. Non-Repairability:

Oil seals and valve stem seals are single-use consumable components. Once elastomeric lips harden, wear down, or tear, they cannot be repaired or reconditioned and must be replaced with new units.
